This self-guided two-day e-bike adventure follows ancient drovers’ roads through some of the Southern Highlands’ most storied landscapes. From the shores of Loch Tay to the Sma’ Glen (the smallest glen in Scotland) you’ll be immersed in history, scenery, and have a the feeling that you have escaped from it all.

Starting at Comrie Croft, it won’t be long before you are cycling along the shores of Loch Earn before riding over the stunning Glen Ogle Viaduct. Stop to admire the Falls of Dochart then take quiet backroads before reaching the 16th-century Ardeonaig Hotel, once a drovers’ inn. The next day takes you deeper into Highland Perthshire via Glen Almond, with wide open views and timeless trails guiding you back to Comrie.

With the route, logistics, and accommodation taken care of, all that’s left for you to do is ride, eat, and soak in the atmosphere. Whether you’re new to bikepacking or a seasoned adventurer looking for something different, The Drovers’ Escape offers the perfect blend of freedom, comfort, and history.

  • Day 1: Arrival & Begin Your Journey

    • Arrive at Comrie Croft where one of our team will meet you.

    • Collect your bikepacking bags and ebike.

    • You'll be given a space to pack and from there, the adventure begins!

    • You’ll head off from Comrie Croft and soon feel as though you are miles from anywhere.

    • End your day at the historic Ardeoniag Hotel.

    Day 2: The Adventure Continues & Return

    • Choose your wake up time, although make sure you don’t miss the hotel breakfast!

    • Breakfast in the hotel and collect your packed lunch before continuing your journey along the old Drove road through Glen Almond.

    • Return to Comrie Croft by mid to late afternoon, refreshed and invigorated.

    • Time to unpack and reflect on the adventure you’ve just experienced.

  • Although you will be using ebikes you should be comfortable riding your bike for 3 - 4 hrs at a steady pace for two days in a row on hilly terrain.
    This trip requires you to have some off-road riding experience.

  • Expect quiet roads, rover tracks and wide grassy paths.

    There is one short section in Glen Almond that is easy single track and includes a number of stream crossings that can all be ridden through. It is also perfectly OK to walk this part.

  • This is Scotland. You are highly likely to get wet, to experience wind and there may be snow. Equally it could be absolutely glorious. This is all part of the adventure, you just need to be prepared and keep our sense of humour. No matter what the weather throws at you, there is a warm cosy hostel waiting at the end of the day for you.

    *In the event of extreme weather where there is a danger to life the trip can be rearranged.*
