Wildlife & WildernessOne of the great things about our location is that we are right in the middle of Scotland and not far from the big cities, but we are also surrounded by some of the most stunning wilderness and wildlife that Scotland has to offer. Head north from Comrie Croft on foot and you need to walk for a day across the mountains before you come across another road or house. On a short walk at Comrie Croft you can easily see Ospreys (late April to late August), Red Kites, Roe and Red Deer, Barn Owls, Red Squirrels, Dragon Flies and other wild animals. All the pictures below were taken at Comrie Croft (use courtesy of David and Rosemary Watson - David helps out part-time at the Croft).
Other wilderness and wildlife attractions in the area include: Argaty Red Kites near Doune. About a 40 minute scenic drive. This Red Kite feeding station is a fantastic spectacle from their specially constructed hide and education centre. Auchingarrich Wildlife Centre. Just across the valley so accessible by bus/walk, as well as car. Auchingarrich is a brilliant family day out. Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. The national park begins 5 miles west of Comrie Croft and offers a huge variety of walking, cycling and other trips. Of course, you don't need to go into the national park to enjoy the wildlife and wilderness.
