Our Top 5 Walking Trails

Part of your reason for coming to Comrie Croft is to take in the flora and fauna of the Perthshire hills and mountains. Here are some ideas of the more gentle walks around us, but check out Walkhighlands for more challenging hikes, not for the faint-hearted!

1. Comrie Croft trails. Cracking views of Strathearn as you walk up through woodland and rough pasture into a regenerating birch forest. 0.5 - 1.5 hrs. Mostly landrover track. Picture above. From our door.

2. Deil's Cauldron, Comrie. The River Lednock cascades out from a rocky gorge in the atmospheric tree-clad amphitheatre known as the Deil's Cauldron. Fee's favourite. This excellent circular walk from the village visits the Cauldron as well as having an optional ascent to the Melville Monument, a fine viewpoint of the southern highlands. Detailed route description and pictures.

3. Lady Mary's Walk, Laggan Hill and Glenturret Distillery, Crieff. This walk has everything from riverside strolling to a beautiful Victorian park with magnificent trees. Andrew's favourite. In total it would take you two and a bit hours. Or just do one loop for a pleasant hour. Detailed route description and pictures.

4. Torlum Hill. Look out from the Croft and this is what you see. A fine wee hill (1289 ft), easily climbed in a couple of hours or so. 360 degree views from east to west coast. Can be extended to Crieff along a Highland boundary fault line.

5. Maam Road. An old drover's road, now a a fine walk through a rugged Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the other side of Comrie. Colin's favourite, though he does it more often on a bike. 1 - 2 hrs.

We have a good selection of maps for sale and lots of local knowledge if you need any advice.
